Dash knobs for a 64. Empty Dash knobs for a 64.

    Post by LiveWire64 Sun Dec 27, 2009 10:17 am

My 64 van is missing all the dash knobs, lights, wipers, heater, etc. What do the correct knobs look like & can I get new ones? Does any other model of GM vehicle use the same style of knobs?
Is the turn signal switch assembly available?
Also, how many switches should be on my steering column support? I have two. One is the heater & the other is hazards. Is this correct for my 64? Thanks,Brad

If you got that big ugly hazard switch with the red light on top, then it is the real one,,,,,however, all the real ones I seen were like hidden under the dash to the right of the fuse box. But I see a lot of switches and gauges added to that steering column support,,,,I have 4 switches on mine,,,,,And the turn signal switch is Delco D6202,,,same as corvette,,,,they are about $100,,,,,but the hard part is getting the cancelling cam that bolts under the steering wheel. WideLoad put a pick up switch in his van,,,,,,,,,

Ok, after looking at what I have, I know the heater switch was the only factory switch on my steering column support. The added on switch looks to be a ford switch. It was used as the emergency flasher switch.
Don, are the stock knobs available anywhere? Did any other make or model of GM vehicle have them?
As for my 80mph speedo, I have been told the early 1st gens did have them.
    Thanks for any help,Brad

I have never seen a 80 MPH speedo in a van,,,,,even the 64 here has a 100 MPH one,,,,so,,,,maybe they stole yours out of a corvair or they put those 80's in the 4 cylinder models so you wouldn't feel so bad,,,,,,,(like that would work),,,,,so lets see if anybody else has something different then the 100MPH speedo in their 1st Gen,,,,and how many knobs do you want,,,,,they all seem to look something like this,,,,,cone shaped,,,,,and the heater knobs never match,,,,,my hot rod buddies buy knobs for their 64 malibu and 68 camaros from the hot rod stores online,,,,,sure look like they also fit vans,,,,,,

Thanks Don. I will look around online & see if I can locate some knobs for a malibu. I really like the look of the stock stuff, otherwise I would just make some out of wood.
Never seen any Canadian vans, but I know by my VIN that my van was built in Pontiac,Michigan. Here's a link to the thread I posted on VCVC. That's where I 1st heard about the 80 & 100 MPH speedos. Take care & thanks again! Brad

Maybe they were just trying to use up the last of the Corvair Speedos or someone put a Corvair in there,,,,,,the new vehicle training book says the speedos are 100MPH,,,,,,

The headlight switch knob is part of the shaft,,,,,and you need to see what type of knobs you need,,,,,,serrated or D shaped shafts,,,,and probably all GM vehicles use the same knob shafts,,,,,(sounds like a Pick a Part adventure),,,,,,and check the Corvair websites,,,,,they probably have at least some of those knobs for sale

    Hey Don,
There is a Corvair headlight knob on Ebay right now. Says the shaft is 3 1/4" long. Learn something new every day. Good stuff to know though. Brad

I guess you would be forever trying to push that knob in all the way to turn off the lights if you put a Corvair one in there.......
