Ok folks. As many of you know I have decided on the design when it's time to paint (See my Avatar) but have been "Flip-Flopping" on the shade of blue. I remember seeing this picture and set out to find it and I did.

What I need to know is who does it belongs to so I can ask specifics on the color and if I'm lucky maybe even the color-codes. Any info on the color or contact info would be great.

    Thanks,
    Dan

my question does earl scheib still do the $49. paint jobs, they don't have earl s in atlanta anymore but had several cars painted there back in the 70's even think my gto was that color blue. it looks great on that early chev but does it look good close up.

    Bill,
She's in the "UGLY" stage right now...... Stripping, sanding, stripping, sanding.... And repeat..... over and over and over!!! Been raining the last few days so been working on the gauge cluster and planning the dash layout. Did resolve the dash space issue with a Sony dash remote for the stereo...

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H0TSYW/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Cleaned up the bottom flange of the new doghouse but haven't made the template yet.

Slow but sure. Once I finish the bodywork and sanding (Next Feb/Mar) sometime and the paint will come soon after.

Dan I like the Sony remote idea, I've used an older pecker head model for years now it's real handy with penty of switches on it. I just have Velcro hook on the base to attach it to the carpet.
With it's long cable you could put it on the doghouse lid.

    Hey Carl,
I only paid $58 for mine off eBay. I still have my old "Pecker head" as you called it as well. This new remote will control may iPod, 10 disc changer and the radio will play just about any format disc you could put in it... I'm going to mount the radio in the glove box so I can leave it locked.....

OK,,,,,,Daves van is Royal Blue Metallic,,,,,from Earl Scheib,,,,,,color looks good,,,,,you might be able to go there and get a color chip so you can go home and plan your next move BECAUSE,,,,that $49.99 paint job came out to $1800 with all the extras services,,,,,fees,,,, taxes,,,,etc.....But how it looks surely will depend on the body work and the painter,,,,,do you want it FAST or GOOD??? you can't have both,,,,,,

That Van looks great and I bet $1,800 was a good price too even she needed even a little body work.

For those of us who want to stay stock yet don't like our paint codes, why not set up a paint code placard exchange? Of course, we'd need to figure out all the codes but I bet somebody wants my color and I want their's--for the purists only--I'm sure.

Just a notion, Happy Motoring, Mark

    Don,
Do you know the address or basic location of the shop that painted Daves van? Thinking I can call them and get the color codes.

    Thanks,

I spent Thursday, Saturday and Sunday removing chrome and block sanding my van, and dropped it off at Maaco on Monday morning. They were running a $249.99 (half price) special for their presidential paint service. This is a single stage, with hardener and a clear mixed with the final coat for extra gloss. I paid an extra $50 for a large vehicle, $150 extra for a coat of highbuild primer, $129.95 for their "value prep" which is a full machine sanding before the primer is put on and block sanding of the primer before paint another $80.00 to straighten out some flaws in my body work, with fees and taxes the total came to $691.60. Not a bad price for the job since it would have been close to $950 if they hadn't been running a sale.

I checked out the local Maaco with the local BBB, they had only registered one complaint in 3 years and it was taken care of quickly. I went to the shop and looked at their work, a clear coat job, a super cheap job, a repair spot paint and an employee's car that had been painted a couple of years. I was impressed with what I saw.

I've painted my van 3 times, just not happy with the work, so I wanted a professional to do it this time, and actually the job is only going to cost me a bit more that I paid for each of my botched jobs.

I'll post photos and what I think of the job next week.........it's suppose to be ready Monday or Tuesday.
