will a 3. 0 6 easily fit in a 170 van?

i recently saw a 67 E with a fresh 3.0 six installed, i was told by the owner it was easy to put the 3.0 in his 240 van but would be hard to put such a motor in a 170 van. he said the doghouse and cutout for it were different

any thought s on this, i wanted to buy the 67 w/the 3.0 and put it in a 63 that has a 170

It's true. The floor may require modification. However, you would use the doghouse and engine crossmember from the 67.

As well, 67's have dual master brake systems that pre 67 does not... a highly desireable safety upgrade. You would also require the brake pedal (as the pre 67 pedal has different geometry) and the floor access panel to fill the new MC to replace the same section of floor in the 63.

Crossmember location on the frame would have to be moved also since the mounts on the pre 65 vehicles are located different. Its just about as easy to go V8 as it is to install a 240/300 into a pre 65 truck/van. Radiator and carb linkage is different too.
