I had my red A100 parked at work.
A guy was waiting for me when I got off, with a story on how his dad had three A100s while he was growing up. Two had been sold off, but one was still in his step mother's driveway and she along with the city of Mountain View, CA, wanted it gone. It had been sitting untouched for eight years. We got there, and i was greeted with this, as my jaw dropped and my right front tire bounced off the curb.
Besides the facts that (warning 1) it was behind a locked gate, and (warning 2) his step mom wasn't around, I asked "How Much?"
"Five."
"$500?"
(warning 3, 4, and 5) "Pink slip? Registered? Non-op?". "Nope, Nope, Nope." "Does it run?" "I have no idea."
"Well, I'm pretty broke, I only have $300 cash."
"OK, give me that, pay the rest in a couple of weeks. But you have to move the truck."
Well,
Got it home. He called me the following Monday, and said he'd settle for another $100. "OK." $400 total.
Sat on it for a week or so. Then bought it a new battery and a can of starter fluid.
It fired. Bought it a can of gas and set it up in the bed. Bad filler hose on the tank. Started it again, blipped the throttle for 4 or 5 minutes, took my foot off, and it settled in at around 800 rpm, like the slant six hadn't just taken eight years off. Had to replace the master cylinder, and it is up and running. Three on the tree. Tore off the toolboxes. New front tires. Got to fix up the gas tank hoses and stuff like that. Despite all the warnings, DMV wasn't the horror I thought it was going to be. I got the right clerk. He suspended $700 in back penalties and fines, and charged me $120 to register it. Got the pink slip last week.
As it sits today:
I have to change its name from "JORGE" back to "DODGE"
