Years ago i found a powerglide in a first gen passenger van in a bone yard and pulled the rear end-tranny and radiator and shifter mechanism out and put them in my van except the rear end(it was shot)that's why it was in the junk yard! when i had the disc brakes installed i had the mechanic rebuild the rear end and made it positraction ! I don't remember seeing a shift indicator on the steering column (p-r-n-d-1)! Sooo any one with a stock 1 generation van with automatic powerglide have a shift indicator I'd sure would like to see it?

Re: shifter indicator
I'm wondering if one of the creative folks on here should maybe design something universal because I believe the top of the shift column is universal between the generations and even the same between stick and automatic....
I know a stick column can be easily converted to shift an automatic because I converted mine....
Doesn't seem like an indicator should be that difficult to fabricate..
So I just checked the sweep on my van's column with a 700r4....
The sweep appears to be about 45 degrees between park and 1st gear.... the clicks appear to be about 1/4 inch apart at the end of the tube that the shifter is bolted in to except for park to revers which are 1/2 inch apart...The clicks are very close together and could be a challenge for creating and indicator strip that can actually be seen...

shift indicator
Ya I'm try to think of a way and got a 64 chevelle powerglide column indicator dial and then adapt it to mount above the shifter column and then figure out the position indicator on the shifter rod
