    1980's 250 swap in 65 G10 Empty 1980's 250 swap in 65 G10

The 230 in the van now is tired and sending smoke signals for help.

Have access to a 1981 250 from a square body C10. My concern is the total width of the engine with the intake and carburetor. It may not fit in the doghouse, I only have a few measurements to judge by with pictures.

Curious if anyone has done this swap. The intake is integrated into the cylinder head, so I cant just swap intakes.

    Thanks

I'm surprised that nobody has answered this yet....It's my understanding that a 230 head will go right on a 250, as folks have done this so they can use aftermarket manifolds....You might have to do some deep searches here and at VCVC.org to get more detailed info....
I've always just swapped to v-8, but that creates fabrication requirements on a first-gen...

Yeah, Im probably going to do a valve job on the 230 head and bolt it on to the 250. Intake, exhaust etc will then just go back in factory position.

If you convert to HEI, be sure to run a new non-resistance wire between the key switch and the coil (HEI un it)..... All these vans were pre-HEI and had points distributors which had a resistance wire powering the coil....HEI uses full 12 volts.....

Yes, overall not a bad swap. I used the 230 head, intake and exhaust. The throttle linkage went right back in.

Do you have the original 230 engine block - if so, would you share the build code?
