    Hello everyone,

I recently had my 318 5.2L engine overhauled and I need to also replace the carburetor.

The Dodge Service Manual says I need a BBD-4420S carburetor.  This carburetor has the Dash Pot, since it's a manual transmission.

I can't seem to find any carburetors online that have a Dash Pot (which I gather is an important feature that prevents the engine from stalling when taking the foot off the gas).

I'm looking for any ideas, or leads to find such an animal.

Or would it be totally ok to simply replace the carburetor with one that doesn't have a Dash Pot... These sell for around $80 bucks on Ebay and Amazon...

Very much appreciate any info on this.

    Thank you!
    Jerry A.

So,,,,,,do you have a dashpot on the old carburetor that you can mount on a different carb,,,,there might be a dashpot arm on all carbs or you could make one,,,,but probably that old van wouldnt even know know if its dashpot is missing,,,,,,,and you can always slowly let up on the gas pedal if it does......

The old carb does not have the dashpot.  I wound up ordering a reg carb and I'll just have to see how it drives once it's installed.  But I like your idea of letting off easy on the accelerator  1968 Dodge A100 318 5.2L 3-spd carburetor 1f601

That was probably a Smog control thing back then to keep raw gas from being pulled into the cylinder and out the tailpipe  when the throttle plates closed and cut off the air,,,,I would say auto trans mostly used them,,,,,but see how your Dodge likes its new carb,,,,,,,,,

@newbie78 any update of what carb you went with and how it worked out for you?
