When I first restored my van, I replaced all the various grommets, bushings, and washers on all the carb linkage to try to tighten things up. 12 years later it’s time to do it again. But I’m having a heck of a time finding this type of grommet! It has a metal sleeve/washer with rubber that tapers to fit into the “rounded” hole in the bracket.
I’ve done a lot of searching online but this is the one that shows up all the time for, like, 30 years of GMs!
Then I realized what I’m looking for is what is used on my automatic shifter linkage. The shifter arm also has a “rounded” hole that the grommet fits into (on the bottom side, anyway).
But just now I took a closer look at the diagram in our maintenance manual and their drawing looks just like the one that keeps showing up in my searches!! So the correct part has been staring me in the face all along? The diagram makes it look like it just goes alongside the bracket, which wouldn’t work. So, what, do you work the rubber ring into the hole and the inserting the plastic sleeve keeps it from coming out?
Well, let me know if anyone knows where to get the kind for the shifter arm. I’d like to replace them too.
Thanks
