Just want to make sure I got this right. I have a brand new gasket, truck new paint no rust around body edges:

    1. Install rubber gasket all the way around the body opening.
    2. clean glass for one side and lube with soapy water, also the rubber gasket on one side.
    3. Working from the outside of the truck, slide window in on the bottom, then up the pillar and across the top. Work the rubber with a plastic spudger
    4. When I get to the middle , push the glass as far as possible to the outside of the truck and carefully put the center rubber over the window.
    5. Take a break
    6. Do I use cord to install the second windshield piece?
    7. Lube the second side rubber and window, working from the outside of the truck, put glass in the bottom rubber and work around slowly skootching the glass in. If using cord, pull that from the bottom up on both side evenly,
    8 then across the top.

    Is that it?

    Thanks

As long as you don't cuss 'em too much. Just kidding. I am careful about what I ask my wife to help with. Don't get me wrong, she's good help, I'm just a lousy boss. Mad

    Definitely need two people.

I had a glass installer come to my house and I helped him, definitely not an easy job.

I was on the inside keeping the glass from falling in and he was on the outside of the van hitting the glass with his hands to get it in place. He did not use a cord, he used a metal hook to get the gasket around the glass.

A good idea with new or good paint is to put down a couple of layers of painters tape directly under where the gasket is and then tape a thin towel under that. Better safe than sorry if the glass slips out or drops down.

Did this myself and it worked ok. It's a pain to be careful all the time and have the whole glas in view, especially, when you try to work in the second glass into the middle channel.

No cord used, not even for the insert. Take care to put it in the right side.

And protecting the paint is as good an idea as soapy water. Be aware of possible scratches by your clothes (e.g. knobs of your jeans, zipper and such).

A warm environment helps a lot to keep the rubber as elastic as possible.
