Van is Driveable Again!!! Empty Van is Driveable Again!!!

I am back on the road! I got rid of the dropped front axle the PO installed (very poorly) and returned it to a stock version from my '66 parts van (with stock sway bar). Upgraded brakes with D&D's disc kit, and we swapped out the stock 7" rear end (with 4.00 gears) to the parts van's 9" with 3.5 gears. What a difference!!! Only took it for a brief spin so far but it handles great, stops SO much better, and the rear end now means the engine doesn't scream at 55 mph. A little more leisurely acceleration, but that's a fair trade in my book.

Full disclosure. Although I helped pull some of this apart, my buddies mechanic (and Ford nut) did most of the dirty work, and was very reasonable - in fact I think he works too cheap. Now I'm going to do some prep work in anticipation for painting it here soon. I'm just getting started!

Gotta feel good to be back on the road again cheers Looking forward to the day when I can finally say that. Mine hasn't seen the road since 1984 and has been stored in a polebarn and then a short trip on a trailer to my garage a few years ago. My goal is summer of 2010 to get it back in society again.
