I got rid of the dropped front axle the PO installed (very poorly) and returned it to a stock version from my '66 parts van (with stock sway bar). Upgraded brakes with D&D's disc kit, and we swapped out the stock 7" rear end (with 4.00 gears) to the parts van's 9" with 3.5 gears. What a difference!!! Only took it for a brief spin so far but it handles great, stops SO much better, and the rear end now means the engine doesn't scream at 55 mph. A little more leisurely acceleration, but that's a fair trade in my book.
Full disclosure. Although I helped pull some of this apart, my buddies mechanic (and Ford nut) did most of the dirty work, and was very reasonable - in fact I think he works too cheap. Now I'm going to do some prep work in anticipation for painting it here soon. I'm just getting started!

Looking forward to the day when I can finally say that. Mine hasn't seen the road since 1984 and has been stored in a polebarn and then a short trip on a trailer to my garage a few years ago. My goal is summer of 2010 to get it back in society again.
