Re: Spare wheel mounting
Thanks 61 econoline. Do you mount the tire with a wing nut and a special bolt?

Re: Spare wheel mounting
I think it's both a special bolt and a wing nut

Re: Spare wheel mounting
There is also another piece that mounts to the rear door frame with two bolts. I can get a pic for you tomorrow AM.

Ok, it's been almost 5 years since that last post...anyone get a good picture of the tire mount situation in the Ford vans yet?
I need to see myself, my van doesn't have anything either.

Re: Spare wheel mounting
The pickup, regular van, and Supervan all have different style mounts, none interchange. I have reproduction bolts for the short van. D and D has the pickup bolts.

Re: Spare wheel mounting
I would just make one out of some all thread and weld two pieces of round stock to a nut to make a wingnut. us vanners are pretty creative here. unless you are going for all original.

Re: Spare wheel mounting
I'll have to look at what my van has for mounting this weekend when I go back to where it's stored. Right now all I know is that there's no spare and I don't remember anything in the corner where one is usually stored. There is a pic from TexasJohn's thread (he owned it before me) that almost shows the whole area.
I was thinking a "J" bolt with wingnut like what's in my Torino would work if there's a hole to feed it through. What do your bolts you have for sale look like Tim?

Re: Spare wheel mounting
The spare tire mount gets in the way when paneling an econoline. The shop I worked in removed the mount bracket when installing custom interiors.

Re: Spare wheel mounting
Mine are just like original. They are machine to lock into the factory slot so the bolt won't spin. $5.00 plus shipping. I could cut a bracket off a parts van also.

I'll take a look this weekend to see if there's a bracket in the van. Meanwhile if you could get a shot of the bracket I'd appreciate it...Know what to look for and where it might have been. Thanks

Spare
There's a space on the drivers side in front of the rear wheel under the van that will hold a spare I used a modified winder from a 2003 Econoline on my pickup and I'm going to do it again on my 66 extended

Re: Spare wheel mounting
I had planned on using that area for an extra cargo bin accessed from the top. However that could turn out to be a pretty slick area to put the tire if it will fit between the frame and the inner body panel. Assume that would depend on the size of the tire. Did you box the interior to keep it air tight inside the truck??? Would love to see some pictures??
