Windshield Rubber?

Windshield Rubber?
Well today somebody kicked a basketball at my windshield and it cracked all over the place. I know thats just a flat piece of glass and any glass shop can cut it, but what about the windshield rubber? Will the glass shop be able to find a replacement? Are these reproduced? Are there other chevy modles that used similar rubber? Thanks,
-Ryan

Re: Windshield Rubber?
I wasnt there when it happened and of coarse I cant find the kid that did it. Now that I am no longer in a fit of rage I have realized that I needed a new windshield anaway. It had lots of little rock chips and there is overspray from when they painted it. The gasket leaks and is cracked all over the place. Like Don said, Its times like these Im glad to be a flat glass owner!

Re: Windshield Rubber?
And a nice piece of shaded glass would be nice,,,,,I took a cracked one and traced it on a couple of pieces of construction paper taped together and made a pattern that the glass company used to cut of a piece of glass.

Re: Windshield Rubber?
Joe, I found(in OH) a used tinted windshield for the CA 65. It looks great in it (well alot better than none) It wasn't that hard to do. I got my gasket from what was Chevy Duty. It was $29. (I think). Dan some of the pickups came with trim around WS. My guess is that one is just a pickup one, listed for van???

It is listed for a chevy van. Just didn't know what the "W/O TRIM GROOVE " meant.

Re: Windshield Rubber?
Most of the glass shops will have, I think its called 4110, glue made to bond window rubber together. I used to use it when I was a kid working in a subway car factory. It makes superglue look like elmers!

Re: Windshield Rubber?
That BobsChevyTrucks link says its for 65-70. Thats first and secound gen, thats why I was confused. And why 65-70? If it actually fits a 65, it will fit a 64 too.

I believe certain pick-up models have a chrome trim that fits into a groove in the windsheild gasket.
I think...

Re: Windshield Rubber?
I am not believing any of this,,,,a curved 2nd Gen is like 63" wide at the bottom,,,,a flat 1st Gen is 58",,,,,,there is at least 6" difference in size in gaskets,,,,,the deluxe package pick ups do have that groove in them for a chrome insert,,,,,,so if you choose the standard pick up model gasket, its as close as you are going to get to a 64-66 van. And even then the pick up gasket is curved,,,and sometimes it does not take too kindly to being put on a ,,,,,,FLAT GLASS,,,,,,,

Re: Windshield Rubber?
Well the gasket I got from Arrowhead is to long by a at least a couple inches. Going to try cutting it and glueing it back together tomorrow, it was for a 64-66 chevy P'Up. I am swapping out windshields from the Hippy Van tho , possibly they have that glass cut wrong (tinted) ,, have to compare in the mornin'.

Re: Windshield Rubber?
Now that I believe ,,,,,and I surely had a hard time cutting the correct amount out so that WHEN the glass is snapped into place, the gasket seats right, not too loose, not too tight. I cut the gasket so it fit good on the glass but when the windshield was finally seated, I had a 1/4" gap. So thats not the right way to do it. but it didn't really matter to me,,,,,I filled the gap with some Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant #81158. And adding sealant in the groove was a waste, the rope just pulled it all out. So thats what not to do,,,,,lets hear a better way,,,,,,,,,,
