    66 Dodge A100 Sportsman (MA) Undefined-1536919909-291-e
Make: Dodge Model: A100 Country: USA Region: MA City: Worcester Zip: 01609 Body Style: Van Year: 1966 Mileage: 94100 Miles Transmission: Automatic Fuel: Gasoline Color: primrose Engine: 5200 Condition: Used
The Dodge A100 is obviously an iconic van, which the legendary Chip Foose chose to be the 100th vehicle restored for his “Overhaulin” series. This Custom Sportsman Wagon model was the “top of the line” A100 with larger front brakes and superior interior appointments, such as the very rare original interior window mouldings.
It would be difficult to purchase and restore a similar vehicle for the asking price. It is about 13' long by 6' wide and 6' 6" tall with a wheelbase of 90".

This A100 has been upgraded from the straight six, manual gearbox to a powerful 318CID (5,200cc) V8 with auto gearbox, The original "three on the tree" manual shift lever is used. The engine sounds absolutely awesome through headers and new Thrush mufflers. There is a new Edelbrock 600cfm carburettor on a performer manifold with a new fuel pump. A new electric radiator fan with thermostat has also been fitted together with a discrete rev counter.

The gearbox is the famous “Torqueflight” A904 3 speed automatic, which has a lovely smooth shift. The The “RA36” rear axle code on the build plate indicates this A100 had the desirable “Suregrip” Limited Slip Differential (LSD) fitted from new. The rear axle has been recently been rebuilt with a Mopar muscle car (742) differential with all new bearings and seals to complement the V8 power. A 2.94:1 “highway” gear now provides rapid acceleration, relaxed cruising at 70mph and a theoretical top speed of 125mph.

The attractive custom 15x8 alloy wheels have been polished, new nuts and caps fitted, with new tyres fitted to the rear.

These are very solid vans (unlike VWs and Ford Econolines) but my aim was to remove potential rust issues. Therefore the gutter and belt line trim has been removed and all the (134) holes welded. All new door and window seals have been purchased and fitted, together with a full roof and body re-spray in tough 2 pack paint. The doors and interior joints have been waxoyled

The interior has been painted body colour with custom made “Tuck n roll” front door panels. The sun visors have also been re-trimmed to match. The floor has been foam/hardboard covered for durability and black walnut vinyl laid over this. The heater has been re-cored and new hoses fitted. The rear windows have been professionally tinted for privacy and to keep the interior cool. Many of the rear windows can be opened to improve ventilation. The A100 interior is 6ft wide, with 4ft between the rear wheel arches and around 9ft from the back doors to the back of the rear seats. Having both rear and side doors makes the interior very accessible.

For safety new 3 point retracting seat belts have been fitted to the front seats. A new main battery is fitted with an additional new 120ah leisure battery, split charger and 1KW inverter. There is also a 240V mains pickup (caravan style) lead.

A lot better in many regards (and a whole lot cheaper) than a restored VW splitty of the same era, these Dodge A100’s, are now appreciating strongly and make a great base for a full camper conversion if desired.
