Re: G20 to G10
Ok thanks guys I’ll just leave it alone I guess. The wheels are good it’s just the steering parts looks like rare parts are the only people to make tie rod ends and they are 230.00 shipped. But a g10 is like 55 from just about any parts store I’m trying to think long term so I was thinking about swapping out the front axle and making it a g10. I am guessing it’s a lot harder than that. I plan on making a lot lot of trips back and forth east coast to west coast with my van.

Re: G20 to G10
if you had a 1/2 ton parts van, it would be a snap. Finding the donor van would be the trick. Just swap axles front and rear. Much better wheel selection too.

Re: G20 to G10
What year is your van? The leaf springs are different on 1st and 2nd gen's. I don't know if you can mix and match the spring perches and u bolts. I'm sure someone on here does though.

Re: G20 to G10
to swap entire axles like I suggested, it will need to be another 2nd gen.

Correct-a-mundo! The springs are much wider and the axle is different. The only problem I have with the 3/4 ton six lug setup is wheel options are limited, and the biggie is that no one has yet put together a disc brake conversion kit. I know a guy who "is working on it". The front drums are large and you cannot find replacements, no one makes them. A second Gen G10 is close but no cigar. I completely rebuilt my brake system Master Cylinder to rear shoes but couldn't find anyone to turn the front drums as they were past "spec". Liability issues I suppose. But they have good life left in them still and the van stops well. I would like discs or at least a remote booster as the van is heavier than my 1st Gen so its harder to stop with all manual all drums.
As far as all the steering parts, tie rods etc. they shouldn't be hard to find.

You could just toss the entire stock suspension and bag it. But then you'd have to spend two grand on a sound system!
couldn't find a photo of a lowered G20

Re: G20 to G10
Thanks for all the info guys. I’m not really sure what I’m going to do yet but for now I’m going to replace the tie rod ends and just roll it. Down the road I hope to change it to a g10 but that’s just out of the budget right now.

Re: G20 to G10
you should be able to get a complete axle for what you quoted on tie rod ends! post a 'wanted' ad here or vcvc, plenty of van hoarders in ohio/Michigan area. if you cant find one, junkyard on ohio/pa line has one and reasonable. $200 cash got me all 6 doors.

Re: G20 to G10
I may have misspoke - do the 2nd Gen G10s have the wider springs and perches like the G20s?

All 2nd gens (both G10/G20) have the same width springs, and same perches.
1st gen (64-66) springs are narrower, and perches are in a different location, so 1st gen & 2nd gen axles do not interchange.
