Looks like they have a schematic of the Ford on the bulletin board.

John,
Hey you're close enough that I'd drive to Norman to see that or catch you at a car show if you do those. Posting pics can't be too hard since I've managed to get a few on here. I know there is a topic on it but I can't find it right now. I'm not very good while using my phone. Maybe I can link it later.

I found that link but it sounds real complicated for a guy with a flip phone. I go to a lot of car shows with my van in the tri state area. john

Next time you are going to one in central OK, let me know. If available, I'll try to make it. I have a motorcycle, so if it is close on a pretty day, I might go to one in another state.

Personally, I like the two that Russel posted better than the "Chevy Concept", overall appearance. JM2C.

When they convert the van to a pickup, do they have to create additional support underneath the vehicle since there’s no longer a roof to tie everything together?

From what I've seen of the Fords, the underneath looks the same. I always assumed(You know that will get you into trouble.) that they relied on the bedrail for structural integrity. Of course this is from a factory that employed several engineers. I don't know if you could work something similar. Just thinking out loud.

I really like the look of the triangle window on the side of the pickup!

I do as well. Better than the no window prototype. Kinda makes it look like an early "KingCab" pickup from the late 70's.

picked it up Friday and have it totally stripped down to the shell and suspension. if anyone lives close to norman and is building one and needs parts I got a dam good doghouse I cut out, heater box and blowermotor, th350 trans, inline 6 motor with manifolds taken off. 5 or 6 side windows muffler and gauge cluster they can have. id like to get them out of my yard quick.
and thx for the awesome photos! that really helps. im leaning towards a stake type bed.

I think the reason they never put it into mass production was they had the hot selling El Camino at the time plus a very successful line of C/K class pickups and didn't want to compete with themselves. Ford had the Ranchero and the Dodge A100 and both beat GM to the punch with the van version pickups so there was probably no market for them from GM...that flyer states Dealer installed camping equipment extra so it was probably special order for use with a camper body placed in the bed...or is that a photoshop flyer?
