Post by vkarppinen Sat Sep 16, 2017 5:24 am

Hey out there, I came across a 1965 chevy sport van I'm interested in. can someone give me a handle on what the value might be for this sweet sportsman?

looks to be almost all original, except mirrors, still has the side step that opens with the door, I'm told the mileage is about 50,ooo original.

a month ago the seller said when hes ready to sell he wants 10k.whats the value 2184010

Thanks for your help, I think he said it has a 250, and its a 3 speed on the collum

any van without rust would be 5K and up. how high the price will go depends on what features, how complete, the overall condition and to a small degree which model.

that appears to be a sportvan custom or maybe its a deluxe. that one picture looks good. is that an original seat in the back? or some other seat?

Cant say what it might be worth with just one foggy picture and very little description. It could be worth 10K but I cant say with limited information.

Post by vkarppinen Sun Sep 17, 2017 5:56 am

I thought the miles were original, but the motor has been rebuilt and rewired. I went for a ride yesterday and all seem smooth. It has a after market fan to keep the engine cool in traffic that has a timer ??? do these engines tend to run hot ? after market gauges ( no pic) that all seem to work, all dome lights and exterior lights work . NO RUST ANY WHERE.

if you google 1965 chevy sportsman, the first van you see is this very van, even has the California license plate with the van.whats the value 20170910

Looks like it's worth 10 to me?
Nice original interior, not perfect. The headliner, back seat, front seats, etc. look good.
It's hard to see but the horn ring looks like it is there? very hard to find.
Engine upgrades, carb, manifold, HEI, valve cover looks like somebody treated it nice and I like the Rally wheels.
    Body looks good too.

I'd buy it if I had the cash and needed a Van.

I would agree; the value on this one is going to be up there at the top. Even if this van was in parts, not running and missing many parts the "NO RUST ANYWHERE" feature is easily worth $5000 or $6000 separate from everything else. Add to that what you have here and your looking at a top end purchase.

it looks very complete and in very good condition. you dont often see the front seats in that good a condition. is there a second rear seat with it? On a van like this a second rear seat would add 5 or 600 to the value. very rare to see a ceiling in that good condition and the chrome plastic supports also very hard to see in that good condition. I know for fact that that  horn ring alone is worth about 500 USD.

Looks like no rust (never been rusty) also and the engine has seen the better improvements
    nice set of wheels too.

from what I see what ever the agreed price is will be what its worth. One thing to keep in mind, this is what I would call  a "survivor"  sport van deluxe in this state of condition and completeness and unmolested are getting to be very rare. In fact if a collector was looking for a factory/original condition van of this model he would be hard pressed to find one in better condition.

Only the one rear bench seat, missing the other I guess. So the consensus says Its worth all the money at 10k or would 8 be reasonable ?

don't get too many chances to buy an original low milage rust free van in that shape. judging from pics only, but if I wanted an original first gen sportvan, I wouldn't even negotiate. show him 10k in cash and he might 'be ready to sell' today.

Agreed, IMHO, a window van in that condition, good chrome, decent interior panels, etc. is easier in the $8-10K range. Engine has had some work done too, Offy valve cover and EB intake, nice!

I will, I found more pictures on a site called tenwheels.com, type in 1965 Chevy and the van is there, looks like there was some previous body work around the windshield and door corners. I have. I idea how they matched the new paint to the old but you can't see it in person. I'm going back with a magnet to find the bondo.

There's some really good pics there at tenwheel.com. if someone has a minute to check it out, like to know your opinion on the primed spots and mirrors. Someone has removed the mirrors in those pics and put on small round ones. Now the holes are left in the doors. Thanks folks

Good luck and keep us posted but like Mike Wolfe says, the time to buy something you don't see very often in this good of shape is when you see it! Most of us would be thrilled to have ours look that good with only 10K into it...JMO! What a Face
