Figured out What To Do with the Parts Van!!
Guest- Guest
Well I was lookin over the pics in my computer of earlies and came acrossed a good side view. I dont remember who's van it is, but thanks for the donation pic. I've aways wondered what if GM made a flatty p/u, so I will use the parts van to make one. Here is a "photo-chop" of what it should look like when I'm done!

Cool idea... do it and make it clean. Use a 60's era stepside chevy truck tailgate... and modify it if you have to. It would take a wizard of a bodyman, but the right skills could make it look factory.

This is something I have been wanting to see done right. We all have seen it done wrong. Kowboy done right it could be a show stopper.
Maybe a Corvair rampside would have the right donor parts for the cab???

how about a five window using that small triangular window found on 90" window vans?

I'll have to check that out, the project is pretty far off in the future right now though. Got to get the Handi done. I got the idea because the rear drip rails are completely rusted out and I REALLY want a flatty P/U.

Do it correctly or forget it... the butcher jobs are ugly as hell

I was lookin at other 65 P/U's from GM and the roof on the C series is done almost identical to the vans. You know with the little hump behind the seats in the roof line. So I think to make it believable, I would have to take the roof and rear of cab from a truck and adapt it to the van.....................interesting!

Thats why most look like hell, This Mod will be a ton of work. But seeing one after all these years of bad ones would be cool a one of a kind.

I am planning the same project. But like they are saying...do it right!!! Hack jobs are a pain to see. Not to brag but I'm damn good at bodywork and I think I like this project because of the challenge aspect of the whole thing!
Good luck and give alot of thought before cutting! It's easier to trim more off than to weld more on!

Something I would like to try someday would be doing a combination tailgate gullwing on a side door. Maybe someday

Ok, I did a little research on the Corvair Rampside and the C/10 and have "updated" the G/10 pickup project. I really think its do-able and after Ester is well under way this project will be started as a pure show truck with a "resto-rod" flair. It will probably take years, but I have decided to do it.

Kowboy, that looks cool and funny to me since that's a pic of my van. I thought of that at one time and also considered "halfing" the van as well. Here's a MOD'd pic. Maybe it will give you some idea's...

That looks cool too, I'm pretty sure that its gunna be a P/U though. I've always wanted one, but never had one.

Well I did some measuring today and I know why the A & E p/u's are done in a slant back cab fashion. There is know way to do the cab in tha Rampside and C/10 cab style without it looking like an extra cab. The dog house goes back pretty far and that would put the back of the cab back farther like this. I may go this direction but I think I would add a window to the side and go 5 window.

Kowboy,
You may want to go back and re measure. But this time open the doghouse lid all the way so you can really work on things. You may find my suggestion to be a bit more accurate and functional. I have been through what you are doing and have measured and re-measured many times…. It also allows for correct installation of 3-way seatbelts, rear speakers and a little storage for those extra tools/ parts we don’t dare leave home without.

Here's my crack at it! Me being a Sportvan fan, I gotta have that little porthole window. And I found a side view of a 65 Chevy truck and noticed the back window has an interesting shape around it that provides a nice angle even though the window is straight up. And the chrome would be a nice touch, give you a place for a bit of two-tone. (Although I cheated and photoshopped the chrome to be the perfect length!) Oh, and I removed that dark color along the bottom of this van. It was altering the perceived shape of the van. It looks a lot "thicker" now. I like that our van tail lights match the truck!

Ha Ha Ha. That's funny. My o'l van looks pretty cool! Good job VANagain!! Love that chrome strip....
The design still leaves the doghouse lid issue. If the cab is to be that short you would have to make it as to be completely removable to even open it since there would be no room for it to hinge backwards..
And I'm with Moe. OCD get the best of me too.

Looks like a quarter window from a sport/handi,cool concept.But...how would you tie in behind 'cab' to floor? Door skins maybe? Body lines would follow cab decent.Just kickin in an idea is all.
