I've recently replaced all the rubbers in the two front doors in my van. While it quieted down the front, I now can hear the side doors rattle violently when I go over a bump or drive on a rough stretch of road. I noticed that the latches have a fair amount of play and is what is causing the noise. What have others done to remedy the play in the latches and reduce the noise?

Re: Rattling side doors
On mine it's the linkage inside the side door that rattles against the skin, been meaning to try and do something about it.

If the linkage is rattling against the skin, take some rubber tubing or hose and slip it over it. Been doing that for years and it works. You do have to make sure it wont bind against other rods or linking joints.

Re: Rattling side doors
The upper and bottom pins (rod ends) that go into the floor and roof may also be rattling.
Remove the plates on the floor and roof.
Set in some felt, tar paper or neoprene strip.
Punch the holes for the rod ends.
Reinstall the plates.
Your door handle may work a little stiff but that usually corrects the problem .

Re: Rattling side doors
All good ideas. For my last attempt I wrapped the upper rods with Armaflex and like everything else I tried, it worked for a while then it must have fell off. I'm thinking about greasing the rods up real good, installing them and then trying a little spray foam. It'll probably make a big mess. I'll have to check if there's any adjustment in the strike plates and make sure those little spring plates in them aren't broken. Thanks guys.
