pedal to the metal only goes 50

the mechanic says it the pedal any advice 67 Chevy new carburetor is there an adjustment on the
pedal ???

bolt on pedal was loose smh

,,,you need to check the gas pedal and clutch rods,,,,,its just a matter of time till they eat themselves,,,,,

ok I checked they look ok without taking them apart I had about an inch of play in gas pedal now I don't I also turned the linkage a few turns before fixing the gas pedal should I turn it back to were it was ??? thanks Donivan

look down into the carb,,,,,,,,the lower butterfly should open straight up like the choke butterfly looks when it is open when you step on the gas pedal,,,,,you can also push down on the linkage where it goes into the carb to see if it is opening all the way,,,,,,and adjust it if you feel that the gas pedal aint pulling the linkage all the way open,,,,,,

ok thanks again I must be blind I see no lower butterfly valve but I have more pickup will test on hiway tonight when its not so busy an packed with cars

Like Doni said, there should be plenty of adjustment in the main rod link at the rear of the rod under the bellcrank. Look in the carb and see if the brass flapper (butterfly) opens straight up with the pedal floored.

if your bushings are worn out, that's going to cause slop in the linkage too.

Adjust the long rod where it meets the bell crank. There are threads on the end of the rod. Adjust it so where the pedal is floored, the carb is fully open.

here is what you are looking for,,,,,,,,this plate is closed when you are not stepping on the gas pedal,,,,,this is the view from the bottom of the carb,,,,,,,with the engine and air cleaner OFF, take a flashlight and look WAY down into the carb while you step on the gas pedal,,,,,look for this plate,,,it will move as you step on the gas pedal,,,,,,,,when you put the pedal to the metal, this plate has to OPEN all the way, straight up,,,,,,,,,be straight up just like the choke plate when the engine is warm,,,,,,and if that lower plate aint open all the way, you need to unhook the connector and turn it so the plate opens all the way when you push the pedal to the floor,,,,,

oh ok it was hot when I tried it before an I had mist in the way I adjusted the bottom adjustment all I could an the butterfly valve opens 3/4 of the way

So when you grab the rod that operates the plate when you hold the gas pedal down, can you make the plate open all the way,,,,,,,there looks to be 2 places to adjust the rods,,,,,,and it looks like you need to unscrew the connectors further out on the threads,,,,,,check that pivot bracket bolted to the back of the doghouse,,,,,,see if anything seems loose or sloppy,,,,,,,,you got 3 rods,,,,the gas pedal pushes the bottom rod,,,,,which pushes the middle rod, which pulls down on the top rod that operates the carburetor,,,,,,and how about the gas pedal,,,,,,,is the pedal on the shaft tight,,,,,,,are the bushings on the shaft worn out,,,,,,,is the bracket that holds the pedal to the floor loose?

ok I adjusted both places an now the butterfly opens all the way now time for a test drive
