Wanted to share this, Chubb, a larger insurnace company with a Collector Car division bought this van at a recent Goodings auction for promotional use!

Its got some historical value and they told me they will keep the exterior lettering intact.  They are doing a lot of repairs to get it ready to take around to car shows to sell insurance.

Pretty cool and a cool van....I will see it in person as they are located near me here in NJ and since I have my van insured by them, I have reached out to them for some meet and greet! Lots more pictures on their blog at that link!

Do you know if they require you to have a garage to keep your van to get the classic car insurance? If not I will go with them in a minute

That van was listed on here a couple of times. It's great piece of history so I'm glad they're keeping the original lettering. Glad to see they're going to give it some Love. Would love to see it up close! Thanks for posting!

Go to their website and call them, I know they have no mileage restriction, they told me most collector cars aren't driven that much anyway and they don't want you to freak if you are a few hundred miles over. Not sure about a garage, maybe if its good off street parking spot or a cover that will do, call them.

I have a call into them, but there policy is that the vehicle must be worth at a minimum of 25k, they better put some work into that van to get it up to 25k. Seems they should not use a vehicle that is not worth 25k to advertise there company.

??? You put a declared value on your vehicle, I put my van at $12K and that's a bit inflated, they didn't say anything about a $25G threshold, not many old cars are worth that unless we're taking Vettes and big block/hemi muscle these days.....

I spoke with Nicole Marketta at Chubbs just last week. Yes you do need to garage your vehicle. As far as the 25K thing...she never said anything about that. I told her that I wanted $15,000 on my Dodge A100 pickup, she's sending me a quote.
Very nice to talk with , and will answer all the questions you have 1-866-227-9648 ext 2362#..no I don't work for them. But I think I will be sending the my insurance business .

I've been in contact with the keeper of the van, its on the road and they want to meet up with me this spring! All collector car insurers have the "garage" requirement but most are loose, I've never heard of any of them asking to come inspect the garage or see a picture of it. A cover in a driveway or yard should do. The only way it might be an issue is if your vehicle was actually stolen from your "non" garage location and then they may refuse to pay, but the chances of that are so slim I wouldn't worry, the main reason for having it is the driving insurance.

Chubb is a top tier insurance company. So far, all the collector insurers I've found need a secure garage. Some want a certified valuation and some just let us pick the amount. The latter makes more sense as we would pay a premium on whatever that amount states. If you guys know of a reasonable insurer for our oldies, one that doesn't require a locked garage or an assessment I'd appreciate your posting. Of course I'm here in Washington DC (which has a car theft rate similar to Puerto Rico) and few insurance companies fear to tread.

It can take over 6 months for the police to even file a report that your vehicle was indeed stolen. And, if it's found before then in any sort of impound yard you're on the hook for towing and storage even if it was legally parked at time of theft. The only good thing is the local fellas don't have a clue to drive 3 on the tree.

Still, it would be nice if we had a list of insurers sticky. Thanks!!!
