Looks good. Good call on the tall shifter. Mine is a Quicksilver and is low to the ground. You have to bend over to grab it. Looking forward to the finished product.

Re: Samvans '66 handibus
There's my van. Kinda looks like it did 5 months ago.
And there's the motor... Back where it was. Evidently, the guy that rebuilt it left a plug in one of the oil galleys so the whole top half of the motor wasn't getting any oil. Somehow the motor didn't detonate and there really wasn't any damage. The shop replaced the RV cam with a stock one with new cam bearings. It was also running lean which turned out to be a split fuel line on the brand new fuel pump. So yes, the tank had to be removed to figure that out. It's all back together now and running right. The electric power steering is awesome! Thanks Panhead.

Re: Samvans '66 handibus
Thanks for the window repair breakdown. Even if it is Chevy it helps to understand how those things are put together. Shifter is nice that is something I need to go with when I do my automatic conversion.

Looks great! I had a similar color in mind for mine but it's so far down the road, that I'll probably change my mind again. Keep the update pics coming!

Re: Samvans '66 handibus
Your van looks great. You do clean work.
I really like how you moved the front spring perches up.
I don't mean to change the direction of this thread, but I am interested if anyone has done this. I understand these vans can be a bear to drive down the freeway with traffic and wind. By moving the spring perches up the caster is changed for the better, I would think. How about bump steer, I would not think that spring perch mod would result in increased bump steer either.
I can see that mod in my future unless someone tells me it creates other problems. I would love to hear your impressions after driving it.
Again, great build you are completing.

Re: Samvans '66 handibus
Thanks for the compliments. As far as how we did the suspension, it was a lot of work. If I had to start over, I would probably remove some leafs at each corner and add air bags to retain the load capability. Ride Tech's "air over leaf" system looks fairly easy to install and it's reasonably priced compared to paying for a welder like I did. I'll let you know about bump steer as soon as I get the windshield and the drivers seat in.

Re: Samvans '66 handibus
Got some pinstripes. A local guy named David Lee.
I don't know why the picture of the back doors came out sideways? Anyways, I hope you old school guys dig it!
Hope you don't mind, I just saved it to my desktop, opened it with Paint, rotated it, saved it right-side up and then replaced the pic in your post. - Vanny

Exxxxxxcellant!!! Looks like built-in seat belt receptors too!?
Do they still have those seats available or did you buy them way back when?
