does anyone happen to know the size and thread of the screws that hold down the points and condenser? the buddy I got the van from decided to do a tune up and then parked the van for 10 years. I have al new parts to put in the distributor but the screws are long gone. any help would be a great help. I just want to hear this old van run so I can get started on making it road safe.

Re: distibutor help
I was hoping I wasn't going to have the pull the distributor to figure this out. then again it might be easier to just buy every size small screw in the lengths I need and what I don't use toss in my toolbox for something else later on.. an extra $10 would sure beat pulling the distributor and retiming this thing.

Re: distibutor help
You got a tap and die set? Or borrow a friends set. Use the taps to find out which size fits. I'm sure that it would be a standard size not metric. Be careful when inserting the tap so you don't strip the threads out.

Re: distibutor help
Or go to your local hardware store and buy a few different screw sizes and see which one fits. Like twin said, it could be an 8 or 10. Should be an easy one to figure out.

Re: distibutor help
that's what I was afraid of using the tap to find the thread method. that had crossed my mind.. I just posted thinking maybe somebody had done all this and maybe knew off the top of their head. I guess I'll resort to my other methods. . thank you all for your help

Re: distibutor help
The screws don't cost much. Under a dollar for a hand full.

distributor help
Have a distributor laying around from a 240 engine, so checked those screws, about .175" long, not incuding the flat head, as for the thread size; -the same as the 2 screws holding the vacuum advance unit, and the heads the same as those for the vacuum advance
