mysterious piece from rear brake? Empty mysterious piece from rear brake?

Post by monkey wrench Sun Jun 15, 2014 10:42 am

Like most times I disassemble and reassemble something, I have a piece left over. I looks likes it should be part of the self adjusting mechanism but I cant figure out how to install it. I normally leave one side assembled so I can use it as a guide but I had to pull the pumpkin which required me to remove both sides. I took a few pictures before disassembly but they do not show the part in question.

I scoured the intertube looking for diagrams or pictures that would help but no luck.

thanks in advance for any assistance that can be offered.

,,,you are missing all the self adjusting hardware,,,that adjuster is on backwards,,,,does the other side have one? I don't think it belongs there,,,,,,does it look broken?

neither of my rear brakes have the cable and other self adjusting parts. my front brakes do, but they are different in other aspects. my fronts match all the photos I have in my service manual but the rears are a different model. interestingly, the rear brakes match what is listed in parts catalogues while the fronts are a larger/different brake than was listed.

    it does not look broken.

that's funny. I was going nuts trying to figure out how to make it part of the brakes.

all for wheels should have the self adjusters on them if the fronts and the backs have a different size shoe then the backing plates would have been changed to allow a larger set of brakes for better stopping , And that was and still is done by some people.
Is one set a 10 inch brakeshoes and the other set 11 inch ???
nice job Rod , glad to see you around here. again.

always remember the big shoe or the one with more brake pad material goes toward the back.
