my 5 lb early van Empty my 5 lb early van

Post by Guest Wed Mar 04, 2009 5:06 am

been getting a little crafty here lately...
a friend of mine and i made some molds and been doing
    some experimenting with these...
did a tootsie van, a matchbox, a mini lindy and a VW
the smaller ones not so good, was fun to try BUT
i tried something on a larger scale... and .. well here it is
my 5 lb early van CANDLE!
this pour didn't fill the mold all the way on the first try
there is another couple inches of the bottom that will be there on the next one, and i need to support the mold when i
pour the wax to prevent the waviness , will be better
on the next pour of the mold
also have another smaller one in the works right now that should
    be pretty cool
learning a little.. and having some fun doin it
maybe raise a few bucks for the mag with em? we'll see

That's really awesome! I'm curious about the mold too! I remember in school, we filled boxes with sand, dug a mold into it, and poured it in to the sand... some kids made stars... some made hands... mine looked like a lump of, well, I don't know, but it was covered in sand. Laughing

it takes about a week to make each mold, it's a sculpture rupper mold in a jar stuff but not sure it will work well in the long run to make many from one
after 3 pours or so the molds get alot of left over wax in them and takes forever to pick it all out and start again..
so not sure if i'll be doing much "production" of these
but fun trying... and who knows i may get one right yet
.. the small ones i use recycled candles and cheap flea market candles i melt down
    - the large early takes 5 lbs of granulated wax i buy online but isn't too cheap
    but seems like good stuff
anyway here are pics of this adventure
