Re: Help; Rear End ID
Probably the easiest way with out a tag would be to get the wheels off the ground, eyeball the location of the yoke then mark and turn the wheel counting the number of revolutions it takes to turn the yoke 1 full turn. And based on the mark on your wheel to reference point on body or wherever you can figure the fraction of the last partial turn.

Re: Help; Rear End ID
Actually, with an open rearend, you jack up one wheel and turn the tire two revolutions and count how many turns you get on the yoke.

Finally got a Ford Mechanic to look at it, and it is a 8 inch Hotchkiss and was used on mid sized vehicles behind V8 optioned cars as well as six cylinder.

Re: Help; Rear End ID
If it has one bolt on the bottom that you cannot get a socket onto its an 8". I mark the yoke and then turn the wheel one full turn counting how many times the yoke turns. If it turns 3 times exactly then its a 3:00. If it turns 3 1/2 times its a 3:50,,,, so on.
Gearing is how many times the yoke turns to make the wheel turn once.
