This subject came up over at VCVC and I'd like to share it here. Seems my van is not the only one with corroded and broken headlight trim ring mounting tabs, a common problem. Here's a fix I came up using some copper 1/2" pipe clamps attached with self tapping sheet metal screws to replace the tabs. The copper is soft enough to drill easy and won't corrode. I replaced three tabs this way and it works great. Here's the pics:
They are a bit shorter than the original tabs so you need a longer screw....Probably been done before? I was gonna make them from scrap metal and I saw one of these in a parts can and the idea came to me....also, notice that on the one good upper left tab, I used a slip on speed nut since the hole was stripped....
