Aside from a rattle and some carb issues (running after car is shut off, smell of gas) the van was running fine.  I took it in for an oil change, and now the engine cuts out (dies).  Mostly in idle, but also when I'm driving down the road.
At the shop they said a screw attaching the carb to the engine fell out, and also that I need to replace/rebuild the carb (Carter YT).  Hope this makes sense.  I'm no mechanic, so I'm wondering if they are legit or not.  Does this kind of thing happen a lot?  Thanks in advance.

    Straight six? YF carb?
Yes, the bolts holding the carb on do work loose, and the screws holding the main body to the throttle plate are upside down and also have a common tendency to work loose. You can see them in the picture. So it COULD happen.

Just go out and grab the top of the carb and wiggle it back and forth. It should not wiggle! If it does, you gotta fix it. Take a look at WHERE it's wiggling and report back.
    Oh, and HBD!!!

See if the carburetor wiggles, then spray carb cleaner inside and outside the carb while it is running,,,,,,if the engine speeds up or runs better,,,,you are running lean,,,,,,and a loose carb usually breaks the thin parts on the lower bowl gasket on a Carter YF.......

,,,also pull on and wiggle that connector that is on the side of the carb on the inside of the doghouse when the engine is running,,,,see if that affects the engine........
