I cant figure out this ignition delay. When I start the van everything starts up fine with no problems. I will drive it for awhile to get it warmed up and when I turn the key for the second time it wont turn over for a second or two. I changed out the ignition and seem to work for about a week before it started up again. Its never left me stranded but have the feeling it will soon. Any ideas what this could be?

Re: Ignition delay?
If you are saying it won't crank when you turn the key,,,,,,,,you need to determine if it is the wiring or the starter,,,,,,,,next time it won't crank, jump from the Bat terminal to the S terminal on the starter solenoid to see if it cranks,,,,,then you know which way the problem is,,,,,,,

Re: Ignition delay?
I have seen this problem before. It is either the solenoid or the starter armature.
Listen carefully for when the solenoid "clicks" if the click is delayed, the solenoid is the problem. But if the click is instant as you turn the key but the crank over is delayed, the problem =will be the starter motor itself.
Yes I agree its going to let you down some day. These things don't improve with usage.

Re: Ignition delay?
I just hooked up a ford starter solinoid to my snowplow for that exact same problem. I went on line to see why the starter wouldn't work well when hot (Dodge flat head 6 with solinoid on the starter). I read in there that the chevy starter with solinoid attached gets hot and gets less power through it do to heat soak, especially if headers are being used. Wires attached also seem do draw less power and so on. The chevy group recomended using ford solinoid and mount it up on the fender away from the heat of the exhaust and run it as a relay to help the chev starter. hooked up using ignition key and WOW what a difference that made. I am impressed with how well it works. Damn near flipped the engine,...lol...not really, but it works. Recomended by chevy forum that I was on. Hope this helps you out.

Re: Ignition delay?
Cool gives me a start. The van starts fine and works currently just acting up with that delay.
