    1965 GMC Handi-van value? Empty 1965 GMC Handi-van value?

Post by Guest Mon Jul 15, 2013 7:49 pm

Hello Oh Great Wise  Van Ones. My dad has a 1965 GMC Handi-Van and he interested to know what it might be worth.  He has always crept in  a GMC or Chevy van. This GMC is all original and has not been customized. It is a 1/2 ton with a 230 and a 3 on the tree.  He thinks it has original 14" rims. That is about al he knows about it. Currently does not run and working on title. Needs to be cleaned out for interior photos! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will take the driver's side photo when it stops raining and or when the sun is not flashing out the shot!

The body looks straight and solid even with out a title the doors alone are worth $100.00 each so I will say at least $600,00 and probley a lot more if you part it out. It is WAY easer to fix a couple of dents than to repair something that is all ROTTED out. BUT the body is way too nice to part it out. I would apply for a new or lost title and get it running again and put it back on the road .....cheers ......

Original owner wrote 1964 (not 1965) on bill of sale so Colorado State Patrol says get new bill of sale. Dad is tracking the guy down. Sure would be cool if Dad got it titled and started rolling in it! Thanks Guys.

Here in Georgia a title is not required for a vehicle 1985 & older. I have had hundreds of vehicles in the past 20 years registered with a Bill of Sale & never had a problem with them. I have had a few of them insured with Hagerty's Collector's Insurance & they knew that they were registered with a Bill of Sale only. I know that he would have no problem selling it in Georgia but condition is everything when buying or selling a vehicle. I think that $100 is kinda low balling on it a little. I have 2 1965 Chevy 90 parts vans that I am thinking of selling & I could scrap them out for $800 so if someone offered me $100 for one of them I would laugh at them. The van looks like it would be a good candidate for a restore but that would be depending the condition of the driver's side. I would say with it not running I would start around $400 on the low end & maybe up to $1000 on the high end but it would have to be pretty tight for the high end price.

I would also agree with Dix that if it doesn't run then you can't tell if the transmission, rear end steering & suspension is good or bad so to most buyer's that devalues it. I also am with him on the pics issue. I hate it when someone lists something for sale & doesn't post pics of it. I generally don't even bother with checking it out. That goes the same for asking what something is worth. Our motto around here is if you don't have pics it didn't happen or it isn't real.

Georgia was always good about such things. 30 years ago I used to mail a judge down there $20 and a bill of sale and got back a new title and tags for a year. In fact, my whole experience says the South has much more respect for the individual when it comes to possession--especially for working folk.

Here in DC one is lucky to still possess the car (they like to condemn the oldies) after a trip to the DMV.

Out West is better too until you get to California and their satellite States.

I think there is a service or two on the Net that does titles. Unfortunately, I have no idea which ones are legit OR at least legit enough to send money and paper to. If you guys find such a service they should be buttoned on this site for frequent referral.

Good luck, wish I could offer more, Mark

As a good advise, i think it has a very little value now but still it depends on conditions.
