    thanks for those words group.
I know I want to keep it and it will be worth all the time and effort to get it running again.
there is not much that it needs for it to be a daily driver. Looking at it from a sentimental point of view, it is the last project that my dad has helped me with, and still gives me advice.

For now I will just keep it clean, ride it around the block until I get the radiator. maybe lower the rear end...

Once again, Thanks, It is a keeper, has some nice history to it as well. I helped a guy clean his yard and I got to tow it home with me. title in hand.

I too wonder why I keep the old beast, but the other night I climbed into the back of my 67 G10, fired up some music, popped open a cold beer and sat in the back for a while enjoying that private little space and the tunes.  Between the glow of the stereo lights and the stars through the moon roof recaptured that feeling I got 40 years back in my first van.  It was awesome.

I know the mileage is terrible, and it is rough about the edges, but it is mine, owned outright and it offeres me that blissful solitude.  Not a daily driver but it gets me to the ocean side a few miles away, and my bride tollerates it on a sentimental note since it was my transportation when I first met her.

I say what we have are diamonds in the rough being maintained, or brought to a fine glimmering by our efforts to restore these old steel relics of a fine American industry.

I took a 13 year hiatus from my 68 when I found the rotted windshield frame....

And when I got all the tools and parts together, I got it back on the road in a matter of a few months.

    Totally worth it!

And Digz- getting a little practice installing a windshield in the 65 must have helped some....

    OOHH YEAH!

little things make the van go brooom! brooom!
a while back we did the alternator swap, right now i used the grinder to make the brackets fit better and somehow look nicer.

slowly but surely it will be back on the streets again.

Taking an minimum 8 week enforced break from working on my FARGO whilst I heal up from a fractured pelvis I got from reversing the FARGO into myself and crushing me against another car.

Don't ask how I did it but it took a lot of effort and stupidity!

Funny I was laughing with the staff in the Emergency Ward that I should call the car Christine.

It was sort of funny and the Morphine meant I could laugh about it between wanting to die from the pain!

I managed to start it in reverse by shorting out the start relay and not realising that bypassed the Neutral Start Switch.

Not a lot of damage to the car, the dent is the shape of my bum!

Glad I'm still  breathing as the Docs said I shouldn't be.

Glad ya still are also ! Your story reminded me of a time when a buddy and I was working on an old Plymouth Belvedere. We did the same thing only were not behind it. It did however back itself over an old windmill pit where the newer style well pump was. hit a pipe and ruptured the gas tank. We pulled the car off it just in time. When the well pump kicked on it made one hell of an explosion !

Hope you heal quickly! My first experience trying to do anything on my van involved trying to replace the fuel filter or something like that. Before I knew it, I had a siphon going on the gas tank and ended up covered in gas with no way that I knew to stop the siphon.

    Be well!

The old sealed beams were so old that the silver was gone from the backside. You could see right through the bulbs. New sealed beams, sandblasted grill with etching primer, epoxy primer two coats of white and black trim paint. Bezels also got a fresh coat of silver. The chrome bumper came off of a 77 ChevyVan. Polished up real nice. I also got the chrome bumper for the rear.

Great score on those chrome bumpers. I used to cruise around in a 79 chevy van back in the early 80's. Always liked those years of chev van. We even had the side pies on it. your van is looking good.

    HI ALL.....
    I'm back after an absence.
Sold my old Chevy no-door and put vanning on the back burner for a couple years due to buying new house and playing with motorcycles......
Been missing the old van so I'm on the hunt.
Looking for a solid flat front- prefer CHEVY/GMC  but will consider others. Maybe even go into the 70's for right van.
I'm in OHIO....so want it close enough to go get.
Any members looking to sell............drop me a PM.
    THANKS and KEEP ON TRUCKIN
    Smile
