I am in the middle of bodywork on the rear of my 66 Chevy. The more I look at the factoryback up lights, the less iI like them. Asking you guys for advice on what to do? Replace them with something different? Or just eliminate them all together.

I think reverse lights are required by law but don't quote me on that. I never use mine - they have a manual switch and it's too easy to leave it on and kill the battery.

I was thinking of ghosting them in with LEDs on my 66. If it came with them they probably are supposed to be there, but really who is going to know?

i mounted a set of driving lights under the bumper, MUCH brighter than any factory back up and an under dash toggle switch quickly remedies the jerks that like to follow to close or with the high beams on.

I am still on the fence, but while shopping last night on ebay I found a set of 24mm diameter super bright LED's. So far that is the best choice I have found. I was thinking those, or the 2 inch diameter LED's like on my Dodge. My originals worked with the transmission switch. Seems like a waste to eliminate them all together.

I have wondered about this as my 64 A100 never had them. On my Wagoneer, I had a set of Hella A500s on the back above the rear window so I could backup at night in the off road.

I do know that If you have white lights on the back on a toggle, and you fire them off in front of a California cop, You will be paying a fine...

I believe the 66 is the only one that has those back up lights. Personally, I like mine. I bought some new lenses from Brothers (along with the red lenses), now they look like glass. If you do decide to get rid of them people will want them because of the curved rubber base. They are the same back-up light as the pick up trucks, but the trucks have a flat base so you can't use them on a van.

my guess is if you hit that light switch the cops would be making a example of you.
