    '64 Gearbox Empty '64 Gearbox

Post by Mad Jack Fri May 31, 2013 9:43 am

I just got a quote from a local tranny shop to rebuild my 3 speed from my 64 E100 and they want $1200.

My question is, how easy is it to rebuild the tranny? I basically just want to check it over and replace all the seals and gaskets etc.

I'm pretty savvy with mechanics, I was wondering if there's any kind of book available to show me how to do it, or if I should just leave it to the tranny shop?

    Thanks,
    Jack.

I went thru a 65 gearbox per the 65 Ford shop manual, to put in a new rear bearing, and everything else had to come out 1st before that bearing. no special tools needed, not a hard job.

Go for it! The top loader 303 is a little tricky but your 64 might be a side cover and they are easier. Just get a book or get info on line. $1200 sounds like the normal quote but I won't pay that price.
