    Door Locks... Empty Door Locks...

Post by Mad Jack Sun May 26, 2013 11:24 am

I was wondering if there was a way to just replace the center of the locks?

All my locks are intact but my van didn't come with any keys. I found entire replacement locks but they want $45 each for them. I was just wondering if there were locks from something else that would fit, or if I could just replace the tumbler mech.

    I have a 1964 E100.

    Thanks for any help,

    Jack.

You can pull one of the locks and carry it to a locksmith and they shouldn't have any trouble cutting a key to fit it.

I was going to take them to a lock smith but it looks like someone has had a go at them with a screwdriver at some point. I was looking for somewhere that just sold new barrels with keys but can only find the entire locks...

I was wondering if regular Falcon locks would fit for the same year or if the locks are specific to the E100's.

    Thanks.

I'd still try the lock smith , i'm not a ford owner but my bet is the falcon locks would work fine...

I have re keyed my own for many, many years. Its a pain in the butt, but no option unless you are willing to spend the money for a lock smith.
The way I do it, is I purchase a new ignition lock with as narly a key pattern as possible. I then take it apart and put each tumbler combination into a vial marked for that tumbler position, one through four for each lock.
Each tumbler has two small pieces and a spring to it for a total of three pieces for EACH tumbler. Of these tumblers, there are a gazillion different lengths that can be used so I save old locks in order to have enough of them to make the tumbler combinations.
Then I take all the locks apart and match each tumbler for each lock (four door locks) to the replacement ignition lock I just purchased and took apart.
THEN I assemble all five locks with all having the new locks tumbler setup.
A much easier way to do it and end up with all new locks at the same time, is to purchase them from Colliers Classics in Long Beach. Lew is the owner and a very nice person. He will RE KEY a complete new set for you, all five locks with the same key if you want them.
