Re: a500 transmission
Do you have a 108 or a 100?
The OD length is longer and uses a different output, so the drive shaft will have to be made.
The mount will have to be fabricated.
You will need cooler lines and a radiator with a cooler or a separate cooler.
You will need a shifter.
You will need a throttle pressure (kickdown) linkage installed and adjusted properly or the trans will be short-lived. You could also go with a manual valve body.
The OD used a computer to actuate. You will have to install some type of control. Add the lock up torque converter controls too, if your trans has it.
Remember that with OD, you will encounter different RPMs and loads. You may have Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) issues to resolve.

Re: a500 transmission
yeah, jkr!
Forgot to mention that most all of them will have a pulse generator for the speedo, so that needs work too.
You DON'T have to worry about clearance for the OD unit like almost all muscle car swaps.
You can research adapting a GM OD trans also. It would probably be better in the 90"WB models.

Re: a500 transmission
the early 1/2 tons from the 90's might be an easier swap if all you want is an overdrive unit. less headaches for things like an electronic controller and cheaper parts too. my suggestion is one from a 93 1/2 ton two wheel drive and a 318 engine. use the flex plate if you can as some were 8 bolt and some were 6 bolt. check in a salvage yard ...... they were a variant of the trusted 727 family

Re: a500 transmission
I don't have all the exact dates and info in front of me, so this is just off the gray matter...
Please correct any wrong stuff for future reference...
The last carb'ed Mopar V8 engine was 1988.
The first 500/518 was 90 or 91. Up thru 93(?) was non-lockup.
All of them were at least partially computer controlled for OD and lockup functions. 1-3 were still hydraulic. This computer connection and actuation can be replaced with various switches that semi-automatically engage the OD and TC functions. I posted that stuff a month or 2 back.
The 500 is a 904 (TF6) version that can also be called 42RH.
The 518 is a 727 (TF8) version that can also be called a 46RH (4= 4 speed, 6= strength, R= rear drive, H= hydraulic controlled).
Later ones were 46RE (E= electronic controlled) where the computer actuated solenoids for shifting, not hydraulics actuating valve body components.
If you do some web searches, there is a TON of info out there for this stuff.
