Can anyone tell me where I can get info and parts to convert my 170/3 speed to a 302/auto. I have upgraded my rear end to the 9" but need help determining the best way to make the engine and tranny swap. Thanks

Re: 61 E Truck V8/Auto Conversion
Vic (Old Skool) can set you up with th parts you need. It is much easier to start with a 1965-1967, but it can be done.
You need the engine mount/ cross-member from a 1965-1967. The tabs where the motor mounts attach need to be different for the v8.
You need two brackets to attach this cross-member to the frame.
You need the taller dog house from a 1965-1967, including the hump in the floor just behind the dog house. You could modify the 1961 dog house, but that would be lots of work.
You might need to cut out the floor a little under the seats and box out the dog house to accommodate the extra width of the v8. I have one that someone installed a v8 without cutting the floor, and the 302 fits real tight.
Some use a modified engine cross member to support the transmission. If you have a c4 trans, you might find the rear cover and output shaft from an Econoline to swap in order to keep tht driveshaft as long as possible. Mine has a regular c4, with a really short driveshaft.
Old Mustang radiators for the v8 will fit. The mounting flanges need to be reversed by a radiator shop. The 240 Econolines have the right radiator.
Getting the heat out of the doghouse is the hard part.

Re: 61 E Truck V8/Auto Conversion
And you need the gas pedal and cable throttle linkage from a 240 Econoline.
Obtaining a 1965-1967 donor van would be ideal.
