So I've been wanting to try out powdering coating and picked up a gun at HB. I need to find a good smaller part to try and decided to do my rear view mirror. I've about got the 10 coats of paint off from it with my air eraser and decided to scour the internet for tips on powder coating potmetal, but I can't get a definite answer on whether to do it or not due to out gassing. The metal is cleaning up really good and I don't see any pits in it, has anyone else done this or had it done with success or should I just paint it?

Re: Powdercoating Potmetal???
I just decided to try it because I couldn't find a good answer. For the most part it turned out good, but if I had to do it all over again, I would paint it. The arm is thicker than the rest and took longer to get to temperature and looks a little orange peeled. One thing is, it looks better than it did.

Re: Powdercoating Potmetal???
How is it holding up to the temperature? I'm planning on a partial rebuild over the summer and had thought about doing the valve cover and fan.

Re: Powdercoating Potmetal???
One trick I found is to prebake the parts and then do a wipe down cleaning, then prewarm before coating.
Basically cook out all the garbage that has soaked in over the years.
