I am a kid in high school and love this 1965 sportvan that i saw yesterday. It has no rust and no cracks in the wind shields the driver an passenger seats have no rips or tears. The paint is still nice but the back seats are all taken out and their is no battery or good tires. The van has been sitting since the 70s and I was wondering how much is a good price since i am kind of tight on budget. Thank you so much and I will be posting pictures if I get it.

It's hard to say without seeing it. I would help greatly if you could post some shots of it now.

I just need an approximate value for it. Or a picture of one in better of worse condition with a picture. Thanks

It really is impossible to give you a correct number without seeing it. If it has been "sitting" as long as you say, it will be needing a lot of mechanical attention more than likely. Good paint and glass is a bonus for you. It's your budget, but keep in mind what you might have to put into it. It would be worth at least 500 as a project that requires a lot of work or perhaps a 1000+ if it needed less attention. Make an offer you're comfortable with. Ya never know what will happen til ya try. So many variables.
    Good Luck

I'm happy to hear a kid in highschool is looking at a van opposed to the rice burners that is when i bought my 1st van.. Do you know what engine and tranny are in the van?? Do they work ?? If it's a 3 speed does the clutch work?? If it's been sitting since the 70's you are going to replace the brakes and wheel clynders, brake lines, and drop the gas tank and have that cleaned , Change fuel filters and rebuild the carb, andrecore the radiator . Try to put a battery in the van, check the oil and antifreese. and what they look like. top them off and try to start it just to see if the engine will turn over , if it's frozen then you may be replacing the engine as wellwith all that being said can you do this kind of work ??. If you can and the rad and engine are good working order you will spend $600.00 to $900.00 depending on what tires you buy. So now you should go to the top of the page click index and page down to g vans for sale and compare those with what you are looking at. But with out seeing it or knowing the facts i'd say $500.00to $800.00 If you can not do the work it may cost$1,200 to $1,800.00 proveded the engine rad tranny starter and alternator are all good, Also climb unerneath to look at the frame ans rear leaf spring supports. I'm not trying to scare you away, But just telling you what i'd tell my own son.hope this helps you.

The tranny and engine are original. It also runs. The clutch works too. Now how much? Thanks for the reply.

Did you see / hear it run???and for how long did the brakes go to the floor?? will it move?? did the wipers , lights, and heater work?? Regardless it's over priced that price should be road worthly and inspected and it's still overpriced. I agree with what Digz posted..

Expect all the seals to be bad if it's been sitting. Is the exhaust solid after sitting or rusted out? Plenty more important things than just running condition. Experience talking. If not this one, start looking!

$5K can be a lot if it's not really ready to go. Window seals, engine and tranny seals, door seals, tires, wiring, etc. Look over everything that could need addressing because it all adds up. A few thousand more and you are at a price where you could find one completely ready to go if you are patient.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is that 1st Gen Sportvan's are harder to find then the panel vans, so that accounts for something. Plenty more knowledgeable folks here than me, but my van needed all these things addressed after only being driven a couple of times/month for several years.

    Good luck and welcome!
