Those radiators got channel strips along the sides so you can use L brackets to mount the radiator to your core support or doghouse,,,,,

Thanks for the link Don, I sent them an email to ask about the 3 pass version, from what I read you can never have too much cooling capacity on these 1st gens.

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
Yup, I have read about many different ways to tackle the over heating issue. I have some sheetmetal laying around so if i get a chance i may try and fab a shroud of some sort this weekend. But i will definately go to a 3 row radiator as well. I found the part #CC6066 is the 3 Row version. I will call them today if i get a chance to check on the leadtime, they say its out of stock on the site. Once a have the shroud and 3 row in i hope tp have belly pan by then so i can install it and try to fab a scoop as well. Lets hope that will be the end of 220 to 250 running temps.

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
Since the radiator is inside the van, if you aint movin you aint coolin,,,,,,you need a fan to push the air up into the radiator to cool the radiator and doghouse down which cools you down and gets rid of the gas fumes and keeps the carburetor from boiling over ,,,,I would not leave home without one.......

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
I had read about having a fan to direct air up to the radiator. I have already bought and installed a skip white 16" pusher fan mounted on the front of the radiator. I drove the van around the block a couple of times on a 90+ day and all it did was delay the overheating. I realize that by mounting it on the radiator I added restriction to air flow when it's not running. But I figured since I upgraded to a 78 amp 12si alternator I didn't care that the electric fan would run all the time.

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
You don't want the fan blocking air to the radiator,,,,,,you don't want the doghouse blocking air to the fan,,,,,,that defeats the whole purpose,,,,,,,,you want a fan directing air towards the radiator,,,,,,and let the air do its job,,,,,,

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
The three things I have found are that you NEED a belly pan to keep the air that your fan has pulled through the rad from circulating under the rad and right back into the rad again. you NEED a fan to pull air through from the backside and you NEED to make sure that the filler is in place over the top of your rad so that you dont recirculate that hot air again like with a bellypan, they both serve the same purpose. In some applications, a 3 or 4 core radiator will only restrict airflow through the rad. with those heavier rads you definately NEED a fan shroud.

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
There are no emissions on our vans,,,,,gas just sits in the bowl,,,,,,nothing to hold the fumes in it,,,,,,, People just throw those fans on the ground after they take it off to get the radiator out at a wrecking yard,,,,,,they cost $30 at my yards, $15 at the 1/2 price sales,,,,,,,get one with the most blades,,,,,,get one with some kind of brackets that you can mount it from the floor or on the bellypan,,,,its just a helper fan,,,,,,to shove air up so the waterpump fan can suck the air through the radiator,,,,,,and we put 60 minute timers on them to cool things down after we park them,,,,,and if you mount a big fan that draws a lot of amps, all that does is make the engine work harder and hotter to turn the alternator and uses more gas,,,,,, not a good idea in my book,,,,,,,,,

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
ok its just a coolant fan off a late model honda or something like that, i never had any over heating problems it runs about 190 even on a hot day and i dont have a belly pan, they only thing is the fumes in the dog house, i know it needs a valve job and it smokes when you restart it after its been run, maybe thats it, but the dog house gets really hot, i have to use a blanket beside my leg when driving, and its insulated, maybe with the extra fan running a couple minutes after i shut it off it would cool the box ?

Just run the hot and ground directly to the battery? I picked up a nice burger fan at Ecology the other day for twenty bucks, it was not half price day unfortunately.

Re: Cruises and Shows,,,,,,2013
,,,,,you can run a line from the positive battery cable on the starter solenoid with an inline fuse in it to the fan, then run another line from the fan up to the dash to a switch or timer and ground it,,,,,,or run a line from the fuse box, to a switch, and to the fan and ground the other wire there,,,,,,switch wires if the fan does not blow towards the radiator......

Which Wednesday night is Vintage Vans night in El Cajon this year? That Downtown El Cajon website is useless for schedules.
