    Wiring problems? Empty Wiring problems?

Post by bratbike Sat Dec 22, 2012 6:55 am

    Hello,
I am having electrical problems with my '62 Eco pickup. I thought that I had fixed it but I was wrong. When I start it, the solenoid does not let the starter kick out so I have to disconnect the battery. I have the blue shop manual but some of the wire colors do not match. What color wire should supply power to the ignition? My small bolts on the solenoid were not marked. Does it matter which wire goes to which bolt or have I burnt it up? A couple questions but I am sure that I will have more.

    Thanx for any info.

Lots of stuff can happen in 50 years,,,,things could of been changed,,,,,,the original wiring diagram may not be too helpful anymore,,,,,but if you post what problems you have, someone here should be able to help you or tell you what they did to fix it....

The two small, push on, wire connectors could be backwards but usually the solenoid is bad. It can look new on the outside but if the internal contacts are burnt/pitted the unit can stick and not release. Common problem with all old Fords.
The two small wires are for hot start and solenoid close. The hot start will lock the unit closed if the wires are reversed.
