Non-Stock Badging Customization

I'm thinking of using emblems that are not specific to 1965 for my Van. Where do you guys stand on this thought?

I know that we've probably all used parts that are not stock or year specific, but what about just cosmetic customization? Please post some examples of what types of non-stock, non-year specific customization you've done.

I had 1964 model year 'CHEVY VAN' badges on my 68...
as well as 76 Astre taillights.

like color of your van - do it your way!! we dont build correct detail for years here .

I made a bow tie from stainless steel plate and contoured it to matck front sheet metal.
On the rear doors I used the badges from a late model van.

I know that a lot of muscle car guys are hung up on keeping things original. I think that's another reason Earlies have such appeal. It's almost less popular to be in all original condition and it's most certainly a not a Vanner trait. I like the elite group of custom Vanners I've met here, there is a definite difference between Vanners and Muscleheads. But with that said I know we'd all be googily Eyed over a mint condition unmolested original survivor.

You guys should check out con2r.com. They do some pretty unique custom emblems.

Otherwise stick with factory 1st gen stuff!! Its a classic 1st gen, why screw it up with the wrong emblems?

My own personal opinion is clean, neat and tasteful.
Some of the old vans were, but many were over the top.
Even the radical ones often tried to keep away from the "everything and the kitchen sink too" J.C.Whitney catalog look.


I'd say that you aren't trying too hard if you buy a new "custom" emblem, even at blowout prices.

Better to find an older one that fits the theme of you or your van... but hey, it's all just my opinion.

If I didn't have the stock emblems, I would probably go with the 65 Impala trunk spript- it's looks right.

I did see a 'Bonneville' script trimed to say 'Born Evil'

And it's easy to see what can be done with 'SEBRING LX'

I made some "emblems" out of cast aluminum. on my old econoline I turned the back door letters upside-down so it said DORF.
