Post by mbasaraba Mon Jan 12, 2009 4:38 am

    Good Morning,

First post there, been pa rousing the site for a couple weeks now. My wife got a wild hair for an van to restore. She first wanted at VW till I told her NO! I dont want to work on one. I should her pictures of old A's G's and E's and she loves them. I would prefer a Chevy but would consider any of the 3 makes.

You guys do a great job of finding and posting in the for sale section, thank you so much.

I would prefer one within 500-600 miles of Northern Alabama but would consider further. I am a good motor and body man, as long as the frame isnt twisted or cancer'd through. We really want to find one to work on together to restore, not pay a ton up front for a half done job that needs to be stripped anyways.

I figured I would post here in case someone would see one and gives a heads up.

    Thanks everyone,

    Matthew Basaraba

Hey Matthew, Welcome to the site.

We'll give you a heads up if we see anything. As metioned before, for a good body your best bet would be out west.

Yeah I was reading the posts. I seen that one just south of Atlanta that some one else commented on that it had gotten fire damage. I sent him a message on Ebay offering $300 but he says not less than $500.

I would sure love to get my wife either that red one or the green and white from up north. She loves em both!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Hopefully I will find her something in the not to distant future.

yeah, the $600 one is just a few miles from here. It's junk. Good for sheet metal only. Framing looks like a Pine 2X4 after a termite orgy!!! I offered him $350 once and now really glad he said no.

Matt, Here's some history on that van.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas guys, much appreciated. I did look at the Ford you suggested. Wife says she really likes it but that she is not too crazy about it being mostly done already. She is a bit of a grease monkey or wants to be anyways and wants me to show how to do it herself kind of thing.

I design and build custom car and bike frames in my free time. (Aerospace programming engineer by day) She has always wanted to get her hands on my welder, so far the only thing she can touch is the Tube Bender. Twisted Evil

I will keep watching and see if a Chevy comes up. My brother is a Mopar man, I have never really liked working on them or Ford but could make an exception if a good enough deal came up.

We are looking to spend less than $2000 on a "restorable", possibly a bit more if it isn't ready for the scrape yard.

Sounds like the other half is ready to get a cutoff wheel in one hand & a mig welder in the other.Thats way cool, man.most just say" when are you gonna be done?" lol
Good luck on your search. Basketball

Looks like I'm going to put my 65 Chevy van up for sale and go to the darkside(VW bus). If you want pics I can send you some. It has rust but frame is good. Mainly needs side & rear doors and rockers. Engine runs & sounds tight. Condition of t350 trans unknown. Front end tight. LMK.

I would be very interested in seeing the pictures and any info you have on it. I will pm my email address.

I found a mid 60s Ford Falcon van. It has been sitting for a few years but the body is in great shape. The guy is asking $1200 for it but was thinking more like $800. I am not overly crazy about Ford to start with. Would much rather find a Chevy or GMC.
