I'm trying to post and post with a picture but with not much luck. So I'm trying again.
I just got a 1969 Dodge Van a few weeks ago and have just redone the brakes, all new, new exhaust, rebuilt carb. and other odds and ends. I'm well on my way getting this ole girl back on the road.

Rod, I like this van! The color and the Rat Fink style graphics are way cool. I know I'm way ahead of myself but I have some graphic ideas in mind also.

Re-insulated the inside of the dog house today. Should make it a little quieter. Tomorrow try and see what is wrong with the gas gauge. The fun never stop's. Dennis

Schoessow regarding the gas gauge at the back of the van center of the fuel tank is the flote were the steel tube comes out and goes into a rubber hose and back to a steel tube again there should be a jumper clamp from steel tube to steel tube if it is missing the gauge will not work. you could test it with a coper wire if the steel lines are cleaned...

dix, thanks for the tip. Yes I have the clip in place. I removed the clip and cleaned the tubes and the clip and replaced it. I removed the sending wire, grounded it to the frame in hopes the gauge would move, but it did not. So, more testing to come. I'm thinking it would be more productive to replace the gauge and the sending unit. After 43 years all the gauges should be replaced I'm thinkin.

if you are not in a hurry a sending unit / flote can be found on e-bay for $50.00 in a hurry $100.00 make sure you put thenm side by side and bend the flote rod to match the existing one.. make sure you have a good ground..

If you go with aftermarket gauges:
The amp gauge is a source of fires. Even though I like having a amp meter, you may want to jump that out and install a voltage gauge. The temperature gauge uses a resistance wire somewhere between the cluster and the sensor (location unknown) so would want to run a new wire to the doghouse.

Itruns, Thanks for the info. My ole service buddy John Walther that has a auto repair shop told me the same thing.
