I put one on my 66 Chevy...has an inline thermostat to kick fan on when needed. Powered off the ignition circuit.

I'm running one of the aluminum finned tubes. I can give you no real input other than I haven't seemed to cook my tranny yet. It is the longest one I could find at about 34 ". No moving parts.

It's in, but not its final setup. Hooked to a TH350. Once I am ready for final assembly I will make nicer brackets and a rock deflector as well.transmission cooler Trans_10

I put mine just behind the front grill where it gets a very good air flow, no fan needed.
Some of these set ups look like they will have poor or no air flow. All radiators need air to work correctly. To reach the grill you will need longer lines to reach trans but they are cheaper then buying a fan that you really dont need.

    Lots off good info!
But what are the two lines going to the trany?
And how is it keeping it cool?

derale cooler purchased from summit racing # DER-15820 $145.95
derale inline thermostat from summit racing # DER-35021 $44.95
The unit is on a th350 chevy the two lines are in and out that would normally go the the bottom of a radiator. I have had no issues with this set up.
When installing the inline thermostat be careful not to over tighten..
Had the lines made at a local hydraulic supply store..
The lines cost around $30 bucks a piece can't remember exactly..didn't want to use rubber lines or bend more tubing..i think you can order lines pre-made from summit as well can't remember the cost though.

I just recently went with the Derale with thermostat as well. Since I have a side step I put mine in front of the right rear wheel well. I ended up welding in a pair of 3/4" angle iron. I left enough space on top for air to flow in. I painted the exposed metal with Eastwoods for now. I will eventually be fixing a couple of PO drilled holes in the floor and undercoating this area but I wasn't about to open a that can of worms yet.
