On second thought I might use the new one anyways. The new plug wire kit I got fits the new cap terminals plus it is all nice and new shiny.

Is there a difference in the performance? Simple as loosen and take the old out and drop this new one in?

I am thinking of giving the old one with wires to Ben when he comes and picks up the 64.

Not sure why you bought one if you already had one. But my train of thought is "If it's not broken, don't fix it!

Anyway, here's the deal on replacing/Installing any HEI distributor:

Because I knew it had Electronic Ignition but didnt know that meant it was HEI.

Give me a 1992+ foreign car and I can install a Megasquirt and tune it with my laptop.

Give me a muscle car (or should I just say pre-computer) and you might as well put a bib on me and change my diaper. Just saying...

If you give me the parts I can put it together, but knowing WHICH parts to get is something all together different.

And I can relate as well. I am just the opposite....

    Give me muscle, I'm golden!

Give anything with an "ECU".... Well, just don't give it to me at all!

I'll check later if the rain lets up. If not then I'll check first thing in the morning for you.

I need to run to Advanced at 11:30 to pick up that adapter plate. Stupid me I forgot the carb at home this morning cuz I wanted to try to get that inlet. I will try a 5/16 like TP says. If you find it is different please let me know Dan.

Its been raining here for 2 days, flooding us bad. Was going to look at a van for Vanner68 over on VCVC but it is just too wet to get to the darn thing. Hoping I can get this carb and all installed on the 66 tonight.

Ok so the other adapter you need is the Spectre part #1937 from Advanced Auto.

I got my carb installed and started the van. I still need to work out the throttle linkage. Since I have an automatic in the van I can just do a straight push/pull or cable. I have an idea that I am going to work on and get pictures of.

Dan I do have a problem. The linkage bar has a clip on the end of it, well it is broken. Any idea where I can get one??

I might have a few of those somewhere but I'd recommend checking with NAPA. It might be faster.

    Matt -

I've been following this thread with great interest. A few questions.

So after all your back and forth with the carb adapters, which combo ended up being the correct one?

How hard is it to replace the throttle linkage with the cable? Mine's a manual tranny, so not the same as the auto. Does that even matter?

What are you using for your choke?

Last winter I added in the HEI, so I already got that going for me. Still it was losing power on the highway, while going up hills. Looking for some more punch.

For some reason the link to the first adapter on the first page isnt loading. Their site might be temp down, but that adapter is needed and also the Spectre 1937 from Advanced Auto. The 2100 carb with the throttle linkage on the right side and choke on the left. There are 2 kinds.

For the linkage with a 3 speed a simple cable or push/pull cable with spring will work. Need to replace the rod style OR get a super short cable to hook to the end of the rod linkage.

Reason I cant do this is because of the auto and I have linkage already in for the kick down. even with that I am going to just get a simple kick down cable set up from Advanced and use that cable to run the throttle instead.

Choke needs a slightly longer cable I noticed OR I need to move how it is running. I will get that part hooked up tonight. Issue I had was it was raining out side and I couldnt get under the van.

    That's actually a MC 2300. You need to look for a 2100.

Reason being you have to cut the Carb horn right behind the intake so there can be no part of the functioning carb on that side since it will be "Cut off"...

Now based on the 2300 setup I bet I could get it to work with no problem since it is an upgraded 2100 but I have yet to try it so not going to say "yeah or neah!" on whether it will work or not.
