    trade question? Empty trade question?

    Post by Mr.Fister Sun Aug 12, 2012 10:53 am

So i was at a local car show last night and had an older guy approach me and said he liked my truck so much he would trade a 65 mustang convertible for it..now a part of me thinks i would be crazy not to trade but i would really hate to get rid of the econoline, i haven't seen the mustang yet but a mutual friend was telling me how nice it is. so i guess the question is would you trade for a more valuable mustang or would you keep the rare econoline? im leaning towards the econoline.

Entirely up to you. I will say that MANY Mustang converts are rust buckets under a thick coat of bondo.
Also, what would your cash price for the E PU be and can you sell the Mustang for that price in a week? That should be the value factor, since he came to you...

if i was wanting to sell it i would think the mustang would have more value, but if i was wanting to replace it i dont think i could ever find another truck like this one. ill have to go look at the mustang. i have a 95 cobra already...ive always wanted an early mustang fastback but im not so sure about a convertible. i just dont think the mustang has the same appeal as the old econoline.

do what your heart tells ya...my guess is he had the mustang for a while and the next step is to redo the car and he's not interested in doing that kind of time or the work... but i don't know the condition of your econo.

I am not familiar with your Econoline so not sure what your value is. I think the 65 Mustang is the less desirable of the Mustangs but the fact it is a convertible will certainly help its value.

Had you had thoughts about Mustangs in the past? The only Mustangs for me would be 67-69.

Unfortunately our Econolines do not hold near the value of many other 60's desirable vehicles but they certainly win in uniqueness and rarity. A nice econoline turns heads where ever it goes!

Your call but I would certainly find out as much as possible about that 65 before making a decision. Who did the body, floors and inners like the other poster mentioned.

Do you use your Econoline for utility? Haul stuff around in the back? Are they in comparable condition? Are you coming up to a lot of work on your truck that wouldn't need to be done on the Mustang? Or vice versa? Would you like cruising in a convertible? Would you drive either vehicle in the rain?

I like the WOW factor my Econo has. Altough I really like a nice Stang. I don't think I would trade. It's not my decision though.

I havent seen the mustang yet, im gonna go look at it just in case its in really good shape, i would deffinately say my truck is in rat rod condition. not a lot of rust in the cab but surface rust everywhere. of course thats "patina" to some people. im sure as far as value goes the mustang probably books for more but old mustangs are everywhere it seems. i agree with the econoline wow factor. you guys have made some good points, ill check out the mustang and try to get some pics of it and ill put up some pics of my truck just for comparison sake. thanks!

I would have to agree with sticking with the econoline. We have more WOW factor then a mustang. And some times that's worth more then $$$. And as said before, go with what you really want. old stang, or great looking truck!!!..lol.
