Re: 1962 ECONOLINE STEERING BOX
Fred is a good man ... econo guru at your side of the world .. I'm driving around on his upholstery in my van and his gas tank as well ... If you want a Cats pink pucker upholstery kit with Barrett Jackson quality ... contact him ... great guy ... and shockingly enough ... I agree with Tim ... like my Pops always said ... you can't keep a good dog off your leg ...

Anyway, I am in the market for rebuilding/swapping mine as well, I'll post if I come up with anything more. Good Luck.
Contact my Pops ... NO insult intended to Southern or East Coast econoliners ... I am part of the Pac NW ... he saved my sorry icehole on a rebuild ... near Seattle ... great guy ...

I am jealous of the patience it takes to put all of that information together. Every time I get into a project I start off documenting and taking pictures then I get to the swear word part of the project and I turn the camera off. Very well done, thanks for finding the post.

Re: 1962 ECONOLINE STEERING BOX
Big W worse case scenario I can always get you a good used one from a parts van.
Murdock it took a lot of work for Ron to compile all that info and it's a shame he died with the truck still in pieces. Site member Fred Carello has purchased the truck from his widow which had just been painted and has put it together so we should see it on the road soon.

Re: Ron's Blog
From that blog I purchased new "Spring Washers" -the old ones flat, so no spring after 360K miles, and those the main problem, works fine now.

Re: 1962 ECONOLINE STEERING BOX
Hey Joe - I can testify to RedHead's quality as well. I know you're looking for something cheaper and local, but I got mine rebuilt about ~6months ago and man does my Marshmallow drive better [1-hand casual on the freeway!]
I live in Seattle, and a walk-in, next-day pickup was just over $200
My 2cents.

Re: 1962 ECONOLINE STEERING BOX
I recently got my hands on a spare steering box for free and decided to give this rebuild a shot. I already have it disassembled and the box, cover, and bolts are in for powder coating. Between Ron's blog and the post below, it seems pretty straight forward. The advantage you get from a shop like Redhead is that I think they machine the shaft a bit and put in larger bearings to tighten it back up.
