My camper is a 1964 GMC. Have had it a few years now long enough to replace the brakes, engine well half of it and some of the wood paneling in the back. All of the wood work was done prior to buying it. Was an eBay find, had been looking for an old GMC or Chevy van since almost buying one when I was eighteen twenty plus years ago. Parched a Chevy luv instead and outfitted it with a cap over the bed and placed a futon bed in the back and was ready at a moment’s notice to camp. But there was alwase a van in the back of my mind just had to wait till the right time to find it.
This is my third GMC van. But the only one that still have. It’s set up in three sections the drivers area, also doubles as the dining room, and a good place to stay warm in the winter since the engine is just between the seats. The second area separated by a curtin from the front is the living area complete with vanity mirror and cabinets and when I camp it also doubles as a bathroom. At 2am on a camping trip sure is biter than finding a tree in the dark. The third area is the bed in the back, I am only 5-9 and can fit diagonally, tease my new wife I married her because she was shorter than I was and would fit in my van. After all the time and money spent on her; Van not new wife, have only spent been camping with her once. The week end before my wedding, and did stay in her while family was in town for my wedding. My own bed and private bathroom vs. house full of relatives. For what I have spent in repairs and maintenance for the fore nights I have slept in the back, not counting the times I have fallen asleep while napping in the back during lunch, it’s been the most expensive camper I have ever been in but she is worth it.
