I used to camp in my panel van all the time. We would take off and follow our nose to parts unknown for days on end. When we got tired, we would pull into a rest area and crash. We would stop at the KOA or truckstop and get a shower for 50 cents. You sure can't do that any more!!!!

Re: Does this count????
sure you can! maybe not so much on the east coast, but I often saw wanderers when we lived in norcal. PCH 1 had a good population of people just finding their way, taking their time.
one of my favorite memories when we were driving down to big sur one wknd, a dude had pulled to the side, next to a 100 ft sheer drop to the ocean, he had no shirt and was shaving via his side view mirror. vintage vw van/bus… hmmm, now that I mention it…. wouldn’t be a bad way to spend the rest of my life.
