So, I just picked up a 1964 chevy van. Its got a 230 straight 6 3 on the tree and runs great. the problem is that, I was looking around in it and turned on the inside lights every thing was fine till I shut them off and tried to turn on the head lights . when I pulled the light switch to "on" nothing happened. I then tried starting it and nothing happened. So I then proceeded to check the fuses and they were all good. My question is, "does any body know where the problem might be? And What should I try next?" Im new to the old car thing and the problem solving when it comes to this thing. so any help would be very helpful.
    Thanks lilwood8.

P.S. the battery is good, and this might be a stretch but does anybody have a wiring diagram for this year van? . scratch

I would start with the battery cables. The cables may be corroded so as to not make proper contact. Mine were rotten inside the ends that attach to the battery. Try some new ones, at least then you no you have proper ground and power. Next check to see if your dash has a proper ground wire going to it. Maybe run one more new one to insure it has this. I would then try wiggling all the wires where they connect to each other. I found a lot of these connections were oxidized and needed some cleaning. I hope this helps solve your problem. I'm sure others will chime in as well.

The fast answer is-wiggle the connector next to the carburetor,,,,,the van gets its power at the positive battery cable on the starter solenoid,,,,so check that smaller main feed wire hooked up there,,,,,then it goes to the horn relay behind the valve cover,,,,,then it goes through that connector next to the carburetor in the doghouse,,,,,then it goes to a connector behind the fuse box,,,,,so start checking for voltage at the starter solenoid and work your way forward,,,,,

Welcome to the early world. Welcome aboard. Hopefully it is as easy as wiggling those battery cables, cleaning them and tightening them.
