PHOTOS OF CHEVROLET ELECTROVAN

Saw it during this show on the history of Chevy. Apparently The Smithsonian refused the van and it was nearly headed for the crusher.

Posted here to try to document the van with past related threads and not have it get lost in the random images file.

I posted this on the old site, but it doesn't appear it carried over to the new one. Posted all the photos and info I could find.

Roof almost looks like it has a plastic on it. This van has a lot of great ideas.

I'd have to put hard piped fire extinguisher setup on that thing because you just know its going to catch on fire.

Comparing my old van to the Electrovan makes mine look so $hitty.

I never get tired of seeing the ELECTROVAN. I've seen it in person and it is amazing! The detail in all it's assy's and the body itself is worth going to see! The quality in the building of this van shadows any of our vans. Of course it was built to sell an alternative fuel concept to the world so it had to have all the cool add-on's....

DTVM, I'm with you. The first time I found this randomly online I was blown away. What is the deal with the roof? It almost looks like it has plastic or vinyl on the roof and has a raised section. I'm digging the black roof that comes down to the windshield pillars. Roman's has that look as well. It would be a cheap way to give a van/my van some contrast without painting everything, but black would get hot.

Do the Sportvans have the chrome around the wing windows, etc?

How cool would it be to take a window van and replicate the EV? Those mirrors are bad, but they would be pretty worthless..

I've never heard of this van before, that thing is cool. The red '70 SS is nice too, one of the fastest cars I've ever rode in was a '70 LS-6. It was dark blue w/white stripes.

never noticed all the added chrome. knew it looked better but was focused on the grill, jury is still out on that. never saw the chrome on wing windows. now that i did, i need mine chromed. didnt see the drip rail either, but i have a roll of cheap plastic chrome that i planned on using for just that. why is it everytime i come up with something original, its already been done.

G-man,I'm with you,padded dash is cool.I'm also fond of the chromed,bolt-in,almost 2nd gen/mopar looking,grill.That roof line,blended down below windshield trim does look great.Wild tail lights,and what is that in center of rear bumper?

ok i'm baling on everyone and taking that cool corvair....

Anybody ever figure out what that front grill is? Almost looks like the back grill of a Corvair sedan except I think they were asymetrical. Cool van. Maybe somebody could recreat the outside and run theirs on batteries. Would still be electric, eh?

@slowflapper - Those electric vehicles don't catch fire, GM refers to it as a Thermal Event! LOL

I agree that there's lots of cool ideas but personally, I like the smaller taillights of the original first gens better than the bigger rectangles(personal preference) of the 2nd gens. Also, could they make smaller mirrors for the driver and passenger doors?? Not going to see much out of those! I love the dashpad as well and the chrome trim around the instrument cluster and glove box look really sharp! Well worth saving these pics!!! Love that van!

Only 1 question remains...Where's the Flux Capacitor? Love to travel Back to the Future in this Van!!! Grab a few nice Vintage Vans back in the 60's!!!
